Long-Term Commitment and Cooperation

چکیده
We study how the willingness to enter long-term bilateral relationships affects cooperation even when parties have little information about each other, ex ante, and cooperation is otherwise unenforceable. We experimentally investigate a finitelyrepeated Prisoner’s Dilemma, allowing players to endogenously select interaction durations. Consistent with prior research, longer interactions facilitate cooperation. However, many individuals avoid long-term commitment, with uncooperative types less likely to commit than conditional cooperators. Endogenously chosen long-term commitment yields higher cooperation rates (98% in one condition) than exogenously imposed commitment. Thus, the willingness to enter into long-term relationships provides a means for fostering—and screening for—efficient coopera-

متن کاملThe Viability of Cooperation Based on Interpersonal Commitment
A prominent explanation of cooperation in repeated exchange is reciprocity (e.g. Axelrod 1984). However, empirical studies indicate that exchange partners are often much less intent on keeping the books balanced than Axelrod suggested. In particular, there is evidence for commitment behavior, indicating that people tend to build long-term cooperative relationships characterised by largely uncon...

Review and classification of electric load forecasting (LF) techniques based on artificial neuralnetworks (ANN) is presented. A basic ANNs architectures used in LF reviewed. A wide range of ANNoriented applications for forecasting are given in the literature. These are classified into five groups:(1) ANNs in short-term LF, (2) ANNs in mid-term LF, (3) ANNs in long-term LF, (4) Hybrid ANNs inLF,...
